Where to start?

I am one of those people who always got away with not using powerpoints, excel, and instant messenger.  I was not raised with a computer, but have always been pretty proud of my typing skills.  For me, that was enough to get by. When I became a teacher 2 years ago, I realized that this was going to have to change.  My students didn't have access to computers because there was no one to teach them how to use them, other than for testing.  Hmmm...how will they ever be prepared for the global society if they do not learn necessary skills at school?  I am currently taking a masters course that will educate me in technology uses and strategies to use within my classroom.  This is the first post of many that will deal with the trials and tribulations along the adventurous journey into the world of technology.  Wish me luck!

  2. Yay blog! I remember having keyboarding class in high school. They also taught us how to make power point presentations. I have not made a power point for like two years now. Now we have progressed even more where we have things like flip charts for the interactive white boards. It is amazing how we have to keep up on the new technology and the students know no different. Access to computers is an issue. You are correct, if we do not prepare them for the global society will they be able to catch on themselves?

  3. Thank you for being the very first person to comment on my blog (besides myself). I went to your blog and noticed that you have been more successful than I have in subscribing to others. I guess that I will spend most of this weekend trying to figure it out. But hey..you have inspired me! Thanks!

  4. You'll enjoy blogging. It is simple to do and is always fun to read all the comments left by people on your posts. I'm glad that you decided to take integrated technologies as your master degree as a way to better learn how to help your students. It is always good to hear about teachers further their knowledge in something to benefit the students. Keep up the good work on your blog!

  5. Choosing technology as an emphasis in my master’s program, as a teacher, seemed like a perfect next step. With our ever changing society and technological advancements, furthering my education in the direction the future is head seemed like a great idea. I must say, I was already a person thought that I was a person that was fairly familiar with technology and its uses but as this class progresses, I have discovered that there is so much out there that I didn’t even know was possible. In the past two weeks, I have visited more websites and blogs that are overflowing with good resources, than I have in my four years of teaching. I am excite for the day that we, as teacher, can say I knew very little about integrating technology, and now look what I can do. Those success stories are the ones that people, who are behind the cure, need to hear in order to jump on the band wagon.

  6. Oh it took me a while to figure it out. I know how to follow because I have been following a few of my friends who have a blog. It took me a while to figure out the RSS feature. I was wondering why I followed but they were not showing on Google Reader. I then realized the button at the very bottom of the page. Let me know if you need any help.

  7. KP, GA, and SC...
Thanks for the helpful hints and encouragement!
Blogging is fun! I can see how it would be motivational in the classroom. GA, when asking myself why I am spending so much time trying to figure this stuff out,I come across your statement and find it worth repeating. "Those success stories are the ones that people, who are behind the cure, need to hear in order to jump on the band wagon." I'd like to invite you all to post your comments on the other blog post I just created...Blogging in classrooms.

  8. I am very much like you in the way that I have gotten away with limited technology. However, I love all this new experience! It's great fun to play with.
I must admit I am a bit confused though about my posts, on my own personal page. I have to go to a certain place to see them unlike yours that are right here. Advice?

  10. Thank you Ladies! I found a great widget, that I took off of Mara's blog.
Mara, I am a bit flattered that you seek advice from me. Your blog is the one that looks so cool. I don't know what you ahve to go to a certain place to see your posts. I imagine that they are set up a little differently. Are you with blogspot?
