GAME plan

I am in the process of developing a GAME plan for building my own confidence and experience on at least 2 indicators in NETS-T. First of all, GAME = setting Goal, taking Action, Monitoring those actions, and Evaluating or reflecting on how my plan works for me (Cennamo, Ross, & Ertmer, p14).  The indicators that I have chosen to focus on are to “Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity,” and also,“Model Digital Age Work and Learning.” The actions that I plan to take in order to achieve those goals are to use a new technology tool (new to me) in order to enhance student learning. There are a couple of technology tools that I have in mind to use. We have recently built a student research area that currently has 8 stations that students can use. I would like to get individual and small groups of students working on those computers during instructional time. The other technology tool that I would like to explore would be the use of student created digital storytelling. I will model the use of the new technology in front of students. As I do so, I will simultaneously be modeling and pronouncing lifelong learning. I feel it is very important to share the love of learning, and willingness to learn. I really like the explanation of Dr. Peggy Ertmer, who stated that knowledge of technology and pedagogy are only the beginning. “Confidence is important so that you are comfortable enough to make a mistake or be able to say that I don’t know, in order to do that you need experience.”  I will monitor my progress by keeping a log of successes, and things that I would do differently. I will evaluate my learning by my confidence level and a KWHL chart. No matter the results, my learning will be extended by successes and failures, searching relevant topics via tutorials, wikis, blogs, and advice from experts. Thank you for visiting my blog, and have a happy day!

  1. Cathy,

It will be interesting to read of the changes you discussed and how they impact your students.

What technological equipment is at each student research area?

How many students would you need to have at each station in order to accomodate one class at a time?

Do you plan to begin a KWHL chart before you begin making changes? Then complete it afterward?

Will your log then reflect both changes that you could make and changes that you did make?

  2. Dear Crosbta,
The technological equiptment that is currently available is just a basic computer with many blocked sites. I should have included in my GAME plan that I would like to have them be able to individually browse the Webquest that I have built (still in progress).
Yes, I feel that a KWHL should be used in the beginning in order to monitor student progress, and so they can also be aware of their own learning.
Yes, my log would reflect both changes that I could make, and changes that have occurred.
I appreciate your interest and inquiries concering my GAME plan.
Thank you for posting, and have a happy day!

  3. Hi Cathy,

I like that you will be not only enhancing your students learning but also yours. I say this because if you are using technology tools that are new to you, you will be learning right along with your students.

I like that your plan to also model for your students is great. I have found that this is how many of our student's learning.

Using a log to monitor success is a good idea. Will you also keep a log of the ideas that did not work and why? I asked this questions because something that did not work might work at another given time. The timing could just be wrong. Logging will let you know hat you should and or could revisit. Good Luck!

  4. Cathy,

I really like the two standards that you have chosen. I am sure that you are going to have a wonderful impact on your students. I am interested to hear more about the stations that you are going to do with your students. One thing that I find really valuable to my students as I am working with them on technology is using a webquest or creating a webquest with you students. I know that it is harder in the younger grades to create a webquest but I know that it would be very valuable to the students and would help them with the technological process.

I also agree that using a log to monitor the students is a wonderful idea. Will you have the students keeping the log or will you be doing that yourself. I think you are making a wonderful start with your game plan. Please keep us posted!

  5. Erinn and Sandra,
Thank you for your posts and for the encouraging thoughts. I feel that it is important to model new learning to our students for it shows them the importance of life long learning. It also can show them that they have input that is valuable.
I want students to keep as learning log by using their KWHL organizers and keeping them in thier journals. I think when a person is able to look back and see how far they have come, it gives an extra push to keep going forward.
